  • Is sugaring more painful than hard wax?
No, it doesn’t! When performed by a licensed and certified sugarist, sugaring hurts up to 90% less than hard waxing. Why? The key lies in the technique and the nature of the sugar paste: Gentle Removal: Sugar is removed in the direction of hair growth, which minimizes distress to the hair follicle. Skin-Friendly: Unlike hard wax, sugar paste doesn’t stick to the skin, eliminating discomfort during removal. Comfortable Temperature: Sugar paste is applied at a warm, honey-like temperature, never hot, making it more soothing for the skin. Sugaring is not only less painful but also a more natural and skin-friendly alternative to hard waxing.
  • Does sugar waxing hurt the first time?
It's normal to feel some discomfort during your first sugaring session, especially if you're transitioning from shaving or it's your first time removing hair this way. However, sugaring is often considered less painful than other methods like hard waxing. Here’s why: Gentle on Skin: Sugar paste only adheres to hair, not the skin, reducing irritation. Natural Process: The technique removes hair in the natural direction of growth, which is kinder to the hair follicle. Warm, Not Hot: Sugar paste is applied at a soothing, body-safe temperature, never hot like traditional wax. Each session gets easier as your hair becomes finer and your skin adjusts to the process. Every appointment includes a soothing aloe mask to calm the skin, making the few minutes of discomfort so worth it for weeks of smooth, problem-free skin!
  • What does sugar waxing feel like?
Sugar paste feels soft, smooth, and pliable, similar to warm honey or taffy. It's applied at body temperature, so it feels warm and soothing on the skin - never hot or uncomfortable. Its natural consistency makes it gentle, yet effective, for removing hair while exfoliating the skin. Most clients find the sensation surprisingly pleasant and less abrasive then traditional waxing methods. Plus, you never have to worry about leaving sticky - our team uses warm towels to remove any residue after every session.
  • Does Sugaring hurt more on Intimate Areas?
Everyone's pain tolerance is different, so experiences can vary. The intimate area does have more nerve endings, so there is a possibility of increased sensitivity during the service. However, our master sugarists are highly skilled and can perform a Brazilian in under 10 minutes in many cases of consistent clients, minimizing discomfort. To ensure you leave feeling comfortable, we apply a soothing and cooling mask after your service.
  • What are the ingredients in Sugar Paste
Only 3 simple ingredients. Sugar, Water & Lemon.
  • What can I do at home to minimize discomfort during my sessions?
Exfoliate - Gently exfoliate your skin a day or two before your session to remove dead skin cells. This helps prevent trapped hair and reduces the risk of ingrowns. Moisturize - Keep your skin hydrated by moisturizing regularly. Well moisturized skin is more supple, making hair removal from the follicles smoother and less uncomfortable. You don't want the follicle dry and tight. Maintain a Regular Schedule - Stick to a consistent sugaring routine, ideally every 4-7 weeks (sugarist will assign your schedule). Regular sessions consistently damage the hair follicle, making hair removal easier and less discomfort. Drink Plenty of Water - Staying hydrated keeps your skin healthy and elastic, which can help reduce sensitivity during your session.
  • How to prepare for sugar session?
Moisturize - If you're booking a few days in advance, start moisturizing the area to be sugared daily to keep the skin and hair follicle hydrated and supple. Exfoliate - Gently exfoliate the area a day or two before your appointment to remove dead skin cells, but never exfoliate the day of your session. Arrive with Clean Skin - Ensure your skin is free of lotions, oils or any other products before your appointment to help the sugar paste adhere properly. Be Positive - Fear and Anxiety can release hormones that may heighten discomfort. Stay relaxed and trust our skilled, certified Master Sugarist to make your experience as smooth and comfortable as possible.
  • Should I trim first?
It is not necessary to trim before your session. Our Master Sugarists prefer to groom the area themselves to ensure the hair is the perfect length for sugaring and that not too much is removed. Just come as you are, and we'll take care of the rest!
  • Does sugaring cause bleeding?
In some cases (especially new clients) sugaring may cause a pinpoint-sized drop of blood. This happens because hair grows in different stages, and when a hair is actively attached to the dermal papilla/Anagen stage (the structure that nourishes the hair follicle), removing it can detach the hair from this connection. This is completely normal and typically subsides quickly. Our expert techniques and post-care ensure your skin is treated gently and with care.
  • How long will I be hair free?
The duration of smooth, hair-free skin varies from person to person due to factors like genetics, hair type, aftercare, and the area being sugared. With consistent sessions, hair tends to grow back slower and finer over time. Here is a general guide for popular areas: Intimate Area - 4 - 8 weeks Armpit Area - 4 - 8 weeks Upper Lip & Chin - 2 - 4 weeks Legs - 4 - 8 weeks Staying consistent with your sugaring schedules can help prolong these results.
  • Are there any restrictions to adhere to after sugaring?
Yes! Sugaring removes hair from the hair follicle, so even though you can’t see with the naked eye you now have several damaged empty hair follicles that are susceptible to infection. To avoid infection or what we call Folliculitis which itches and looks like tiny white heads/pimples wait 24 hours before any of the following: going to the gym to avoid getting sweat in the fresh follicles, public beaches and pools, exfoliating and sexual activity and wait 12 hours before taking a shower.
  • Should I take a pain pill, use numbing cream, or spray before my sugaring appointment?
Taking pain pills or applying numbing cream is not typically necessary for sugaring, as it's generally less painful than traditional waxing. However, if you're particularly sensitive, you may take an over-the-counter pain reliever like Ibuprofen about 30 minutes prior to your appointment to help minimize discomfort. We don't recommend using numbing creams, as they can affect how the sugar paste adheres to your skin and hair. Trust our certified master sugarist to make the process as quick and comfortable as possible.
  • Why is the area red after sugaring if the paste does not stick to the skin?
When hair is prematurely removed from the hair follicle it causes trauma/safe damage to the hair follicle. It is simply the bodies natural healing reaction which is the process of sending blood to the area where it feels it needs healing. Some clients even have a hive type of reaction to the hair removal. With the soothing and cooling aloe mask I apply after the redness and hives will fade within minutes to a few hours and is nothing to cause alarm.
  • Why do I feel stubble after my sugaring session?
There are 2 main reasons. 1 if you were a frequent shaver your first sugaring session may leave you with stubble. Shaving causes hair to grow back unevenly so it’s impossible to get all the hairs removed from the follicle. 2 if you are not moisturizing the area between sessions you can be left with stubble. Lack of moisture leaves the skin dry. If the skin is dry the hair follicle will be dry which may cause the hair to snap and break off short instead of glide out of the follicle.
  • Is it possible to get ingrown after sugaring?
Yes, especially if you are sugaring for the first time and coming from hard wax, chemical removers or shaving. Sugaring removes hair in the direction it grows, it may take a session or two for the hair to regrow in its natural direction which causes the hair not to poke back into the skin or become trapped underneath.
  • Why does sugaring hurt less the second time around?
There are several reasons. 1 the hair follicle is loose and weak now since it was recently removed 4-6 weeks ago. 2 the regrown hair is finer/thinner. 3 Mentally this is not your first rodeo so your body is more relaxed which allows the endorphins released during discomfort to do its job.
  • Why do we have to avoid sexual activity including oral after sugaring session?
I know this is a sore spot for some and it does not help that sugaring or smooth skin works like an aphrodisiac for many men and women. Sugaring removes hair from the follicle. Your follicle is left empty and wounded. Your partners facial hair and or skin could cause an infection inside the hair follicles called Folliculitis. The transfer of sweat and dead skin cells from your partner could enter the empty follicles and cause Folliculitis. Avoiding any form of sexual activity for 24 hours gives the follicles time to heal and close.
  • How should I come dressed for my sugaring appointment?
The perfect attire would be a flowing sleeveless dress or a skirt with sleeveless top. This attire allows easy access to armpits and the dress or skirt could be easily pulled up over the hips and under the buttocks. Wear a bra whenever possible this along with clients holding the side of the breast aids in the armpit session.
  • What is Brazilian wax etiquette and how do I handle certain situations?
There should be professional etiquette for the esthetician as well which I explain on my education page but as for clients here are a few etiquette tips. If you know you have an STD or a foul order and discharge do not book an appointment with me but I much rather you book with your gynecologist first. Don’t have unprotected sex within 4 -8 hours of your appointment. The ejaculate discharge during the session makes sugaring very difficult. Ask for a wet wipe if you are unsure if your anal area is clear of feces. Lastly, cleanse the inner labia thoroughly to remove any foul smelling fatty residue buildup deep within the inner labia folds. Leaving this buildup makes sugaring the inner labia difficult. I treat all my clients the same. Everyone gets an aloe mask and warm towels. The towels used on the situations mentioned in this video goes into the trash and not my hamper. I don’t make clients aware of foul odors or fecal residue. I do mention depending on the client the inner labia buildup and how to properly cleanse and avoid such buildup and I would mention if I see any abnormalities on the skin. Like STD lesions, skin tags, unusual moles or suspicious of HS and refer to dermatologist.
  • Can I sugar if I have Hidradenitis Suppurativa?
Yes! I have had much success with my HS clients and sugaring. HS does not like hair, so removing it is a great start in avoiding attacks. Sugar paste is 100% natural l, never hot and does not stick to the skin causing it to be more gentle and safer for clients with HS.
  • What should I do immediately after my sugaring session?
I tell my clients the day they sugar should be a relaxing day if at all possible. Avoid the sun to keep from sweating. Try to remain cool and comfortable. Wear loose fitting clothes to allow the skin to breathe. Do not exfoliate the area, sugaring is a form of exfoliation so you don’t want to irritate the skin. Avoid public pools and beaches and sexual activity including oral for 24 hours.
